Great looking... But I am disapointed ! Only monthly, hard to configure... I prefer Ace Budget or Spend - Budgeting for budget enveloppe !

I have been a user of the mac version of budget. It uses the envelope system for budgeting and managing cashflow (allocating income to envelopes, and deduct as you spend). In my opinion, the most effective way to manage house finances. After dealing with the frustration and complexities of Quicken, I was on the look for a good personal finances app. I chose this app because it handles bi-weekly pay and monthly expenses like no-other. It is absolutely transparent. This app is no different than any other... if you really want to rip the benefits of it, you have to invest some time in figuring out what your envelopes should look like. The support on the desktop version is fantastic -> Same day response, next day turnaround for a path after an upgrade broke automatic date import from QIF. Very responsive. The phone version of the app is a perfect companion and will work just as good as a stand-alone. It is as simple and as powerful as the full-blwon Mac version. The UI is elegant and simple. No complex screens to enter simple data. The sync with the Mac version works like a charm. This is the first version of the iPhone / iPod touch, so I know there will be more to come... Personally, I would love to see: 1) Dont ask for a password if you have not setup one - it seems redundant with the iPhone password 2) Enable selective envelope sync options - No need to have my mortgage envelope with me 3) Enable all the pay functionality that is available in the Mac version - Record pay, define allocations, etc. This will make it very useful for people who do not want to use the desktop version 4) Collapse the graph/reports option into one section or have a "more..." option and use this space for something like favourites, income/pay management, etc. 5) Enable transactions to be split across more than one envelope.
This app works pretty good for the simple banking I do but has a few bugs. Eg. When i cleared a transaction with no other entry in the envelope the program would shut down. It was a little more than some of the other budgeting tools, so I didnt like having to pay even more money for add ons. I also wish it had an auto debit feature. Pretty good instruction manual, but had to read it a few times. Online "help" was just an online version of the manual. I havent tried other programs so dont know how it compares.
Ive been using this app for almost two years. We do a monthly budget every month, and this app enables us to manage our money within the budget. I used various excel spreadsheets and tried several other apps before settling on this one. It does everything we need for it to do. It is customizable, and it syncs between our desktop, laptop and iPads. We have been following the Dave Ramsey plan for over four years, and this app has been very instrumental in helping us reach our goals. Ive never written an app review before, but this app is truly outstanding. Love, love, love it! Edited 05/16: I have now gone from Windows to Mac version. The Mac version required a little time to learn, but it is even better than the Windows version which I thought was awesome. Now set up with three bank accounts, and it works great. I have contacted support a few times during the transition, and the support is wonderful.
Please add Touch ID to make it awesome!
Budget Touch needs iCloud support, or Dropbox support at a very minimum. Support for multiple users (i.e. spouse) would be great also. App is of very little use to me as there is no "Total" account view like there is in the desktop app which will allow me to look at my envelope balances across all accounts. Also needs to be updated for the larger screens of the iPhone 6 and 7. One star because it does work as advertised, but could be so much better. I love Budget, but will probably be moving on soon with no viable mobile app.
windows sync was estimated to be ready in feb, then moved to June. now it is almost august. may update review if the sync ever becomes available.
The envelope method was not knew to me but putting it all together wasnt easy for me. I am a perfectionist and wanted every scenario covered. The most patient support group I have ever worked with literally answered ALL questions, not any easy feat. They spent days with me. No support group for apps has ever been so helpful. The concept of envelopes does take some work but it sure was worth it.
...then when I sent the files to support to be repaired, I was told Id have to sync with my Mac desktop version to get the files back into budget touch. The problem is, I dont have the Mac desktop version to sync with! So, I started all over since I hadnt got far with the setup before receiving the error message. I got about to the same point as before and guess what? Another error! I threw it away. If I cant even get it set up without error messages, how am I ever going to get to use it on a day to day basis?
What a great application! It does a wonderful job with the envelope method of budgeting. The new iPad interface in version 1.3 is nearly perfect. In addition, customer support is incredible. My questions were answered right away, and I contacted them on the week-end. I have replaced my spreadsheet with this app, it is now my favorite app. I have a few suggestions that I am going to submit, hopefully they can make them happen. If not, I know it wont be because of a lack of effort! Get it now, you wont be sorry!
I thought this would be a great app. But it turned out to be the worst. Not user friendly. Ive spend hours trying to figure it out but it got me nowhere. Refund, refund, refund !!! This app is lower than 1 star. I would give it negative 1,000 stars if i can. Poor customer support. Do not buy this app! Try the house budget app. It is a lot better than this.
Amazing... Love budget now its on my phone
I have been using the desk top application for almost three years. I began looking for an alternative when Quicken for Mac stalled in development. I bought several of the most popular applications involving financial management. I found this one to be the right fit for me. It was simple enough to use and I could make it track my financial progress with as much detail as I wanted. In short, I love the desktop application. I would like to see some efforts made to allow the tracking of loans and mortgages though. Now to the iPhone application. This app is a great compliment to the desktop application. I can enter transactions in as little as four steps. Not bad considering other application require more steps. More importantly, it lets me keep an eye on my spending in any one category. For example, I frequently overspend in my dining and groceries categories. With the iPhone app, I can watch those categories closely when Im eating out or purchasing groceries. I sync the iPhone app daily with my desktop and I clear transactions weekly with my bank. Ive gone from a retrospective to a prospective approach to managing my finances. I feel more secure in knowing that the money I earn is being put to work for me, and I havent had to worry about whether I have enough to cover the infrequent expenses like auto insurance in over two years. I love these two application. They are relatively cheap and updates are always free. Quicken could learn a lot from this developer.
This app is really cool. I love how the interface is easy to use and it keeps everything very organized. Thanks guys!!!
Budget Touch on the iPad is an outstanding app. Id even go so far as to say it is better than the desktop version. If you are a Budget user, you definitely want this app. If you arent using Budget, you should be!
So disappointed and frustrated... I was looking for a budgeting app that is easy to use and I really liked the envelope concept, so I decided to spend the money on this app. I worked on building my budget for an hour but couldnt figure out how to get to the history to delete a deposit that had been assigned to the wrong envelope. I think this would be a decent app if you already use the desktop software and want a companion for your iPad. Other than that its not worth the money or time.
This would be an okay app if all you have is a checking account. But if you want track credit expenses, as well, forget about it. Credit expenses just are not trackable in any way that makes sense. What the app does do is the equivalent of 2 minutes with a pencil, but it takes you 6 hours to figure it out that you cant do what you want to do with credit card transactions, i.e. pay a credit card bill and have the money reflected correctly. Personally, Im disgusted that I cant trial apps before wasting my money on them. Maybe Steve Jobs has enough money to waste $6 bucks on a worthless app, added to the other wasted money Ive spent on useless apps, but I dont.
I use both Budget for the Mac and Budget Touch on my iPad. I am very pleased. I am a devotee of Dave Ramseys Financial Peace budgeting and envelope system. Budget implements this the way I would. It handles income sources, checking savings and credit card accounts. the coolest thing though is the envelope system. While my checking account holds the real money, the envelopes reflect my allocation of my funds to catagories. When an envelope runs dry, I need to stop spending in that area or find somewhere else to cut back so I can move cash to the envelope in trouble. The software works as advertised and the synchronization between the iMac and the iPad versions is exactly what I expected. Great job!!!
Started with the desktop version of this program. Figuring out how to work with a credit card took a while & after two months Im still not confidant that I do it correctly unless I pay the balance in full. Otherwise love the desktop version - makes it easy to see where the money needs to go & how much I have left to really spend. iPod touch version is another story - I cant seem to get the add-ons that would allow the mobile version to be useful. The add-on button is "disabled" & I cant figure out how to get it enabled. Tried the app store directly, am talking now with SnowMint. Would give the program more stars if the credit card part were easier to understand & if the mobile version came fully functional without having to do add-ons.
So far I cant see anything wrong with this. Easiest to set up with desk top version. With iPhone app you can check envelopes and enter transactions immediately while out shopping so you can keep track and be sure not to over spend. I love the envelope method because you can see what you have allotted BEFORE you spend instead of analyzing some pie chart after the fact to find out where your money went. Definitely useful to watch the tutorial online prior to getting started.
